This week on the PGA Tour, we are taken to Bay Hill, the home of the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Rory McIlroy headlines the field that includes 10 of the top-20 golfers in the world. McIlroy will be making his first career appearance in this event. Last year, Matt Every was four back heading into Sunday, but ousted runner-up, Keegan Bradley, by one stroke.
My picks for this week:
Henrik Stenson (1): I am taking Henrik as my top pick for the second week in a row. The world’s number three ranked golfer finished solo 4th last week at Valspar Championship. In his last two trips to Bay Hill, Stenson tied for 8th in 2013 and tied for 5th last year.
Adam Scott (0): After starting the year with a 4th place finish at the Cadillac Championship, Scott missed the cut last week at Copperhead. However, that is a tournament he has never fared well in. That will not be the case this week at Bay Hill. Last year, Scott held a three shot lead heading into Sunday, but settled for a solo 3rd finish.
Charles Howell III (0): Howell has not missed the cut in any of his 2015 starts. Last week at the Valspar Championship, Howell tied for 10th, his second top-10 of the calendar year. Howell III has one top-10 and five top-25’s in 14 career trips to Bay Hill.
Jason Kokrak (0): Kokrak finished in a tie for 7th last week at the Valspar Championship, his best finish in 2015. Kokrak will me making his third trip to Bay Hill. After missing the cut in 2012, Kokrak finished solo 4th last year.
Sean O’Hair (0): After falling all the way to 513th in the world, O’Hair seems to be rounding back into form. O’Hair has not missed a cut since the Sony Open and last week at the Valspar Championship, he lost in a playoff to Jordan Spieth. O’Hair has four top-15’s in nine career trips to Bay Hill. Last year, O’Hair tied for 10th.
Kevin Na (0): Na has top-10’s in each of his last two starts. Na tied for 9th at the Cadillac Championship and then tied for 10th last week at the Valspar. Na has finished in the top-15 in four of his last five trips to Bay Hill. Na’s best finish came in 2010 when he shared 2nd.
Other Golfers Considered:
Rory McIlroy (Tier A): After missing the cut at the Honda Classic, Rory rebounded with a tie for 9th at the Cadillac Championship. Rory will be making his first trip to Bay Hill so I would like to save him for events where he has excelled.
Francesco Molinari (Tier B): Molinari has not been playing well as of late, but has two top-35 finishes at Bay Hill. Last year, Molinari shared 5th with Henrik Stenson and Erik Compton.
Justin Thomas (Tier C): After three straight top-17 finishes to start the 2015 calendar year, Thomas seemed to lose his touch. However, he found his game last week and finished in a tie for 10th at the Valspar Championship. The 21 year old rookie will be making his first career trip to the Arnold Palmer.
