This week’s PGA Tour stop takes us to Innisbrook Resort and the Copperhead Course. Ten of the top-30 players in the world are committed to play the Snake Pit, including top-10 players; Henrik Stenson, Adam Scott, Jim Furyk, Justin Rose, and Jordan Spieth. Last year’s champion, John Senden, finished seven under par, one shot better than runner-up Kevin Na.
My fantasy picks for this week:
Jim Furyk (0): Although he still has not been able to find the winner’s circle, Furyk has not finished outside the top-15 in three 2015 starts. Furyk has top-20’s in each of his last five trips to Copperhead. Furyk won in 2010 and tied for 2nd in 2012.
Henrik Stenson (0): Stenson will be making his first trip to Copperhead, but few are playing better golf than the #3 player in the world. Stenson has not finished lower than 13th in his last three worldwide starts. In his PGA Tour debut, Stenson tied for 4th last week at the Cadillac Championship.
Martin Laird (0): Laird has not finished outside the top-15 in his last three PGA Tour events. The last time he teed it up, Laird tied for 7th at the Farmers Insurance Open. Laird’s best finish at Copperhead came in 2011 when he shared 5th.
George McNeil (0): McNeil has not missed a cut in 2015. In his most recent start, G-Mac tied for 11th at the difficult Honda Classic. McNeil has two top-10’s in eight career trips to Innisbrook. Last year, McNeil finished solo 7th.
Lee Westwood (2): After closing out 2014 with a victory at the Thailand Golf Championship, Westwood has not finished lower than 25th in 2015. Last week at the Cadillac, Westwood shared 12th. Like Stenson, Westwood will be making his first career start at the Copperhead Course.
Gary Woodland (1): Woodland’s best finish in 2015 came at the Sony Open when he shared 3rd. Last week at the Cadillac Championship, Woodland finished in a tie for 23rd. Woodland won at this event in 2011 and tied for 8th last year.
Other Golfers Considered:
Luke Donald (Tier A): Donald has not been playing great, but he has found a ton of success at Innisbrook. Donald tied for 6th in 2010, won in 2012, and shared 4th in each of the past two years.
Louis Oosthuizen (Tier B): Louis and Brooks Koepka (who is not playing this week) are my favorite golfers in Tier B. However, I want to save Oosthuizen for courses that he has found more success at. Sweet Lou tied for 4th last week at the Cadillac.
Scott Langley (Tier C): Langley has made the cut in each of his last four starts. Langley tied for 30th at Copperhead in 2013 and finished solo 3rd last year.
